from bringing animal when seeking care

A frequent patient at the Providence St. Vincent Medical Center in Oregon brought suit against the hospital for disability discrimination under both state and federal statutes.  Even though the hospital had never denied service to the patient or prohibited her from bringing her service dog with her, she claimed that it had imposed unlawful conditions on her stays.

A jury dismissed her state law case, and a federal District Court has dismissed the claim under the Americans with Disabilities Act.  The federal court has also issued an injunction stating that the woman may not seek service from the hospital again if she brings her dog with her.
