Afraid on the Job? Here Are Some Tips
Emotions
are running high across the country and political preferences,
personal values and prejudices are bound to spill over into individual
workplaces. Nonprofit organizations are not immune. In fact,
because of economic reversals, downsizing and tight deadlines,
employees of nonprofits may be more susceptible.
Lately nonprofits have reported receiving hate mail over their choice of presenter or program sponsor, or because of their mission. Employees have confessed they feel afraid for a period after controversial colleagues have been fired for cause or employees are let go due to downsizing or reorganization. Other organizations are dealing with desk rage-shouting, verbal abuse and even fist fights-triggered by stress-induced anger.
